Lately I have been on a flaxseed kick because of its amazing health benefits.
Flaxseed is great for hormone balance, and a great source of fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. I’ve been putting it in my PB2 with a little cinnamon and eating it on an apple (my favorite way), put it in my oatmeal, mixed it in with smoothies and I even drink it in my water! For those of you who have tried the chia seed drinks, the consistency of flaxseed in water is about the same (a jelly-like texture).
I add 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar to my 24 oz water bottle along with 1-2 Tbsp of flaxseed and 1 Tbsp of honey. I like to drink it as a mid-morning snack.
This morning I made a smoothie with half an apple, half a giant peach, a couple dark cherries and raspberries and almond milk. I mixed in 1 T of flaxseed and 1/3 cup of oats. I think it’s pretty delicious and funky because it has the consistency of applesauce, which means it’s retained more fiber (yay!) and it’s a little more filling than most smoothies I make.
If you’re interested in trying out flaxseed, you can buy it by the ounce at your local food store! I got a small bag from Lucky’s market, and I love the ability to customize how much I want to buy. It’s not expensive to buy at all! I think I spent less than $2 and I’ve had the bag for over two weeks.
